Ada Foster Murray

Born in Virginia in 1856 and living for much of her life in New Jersey, Murray married the newspaper editor Kenton C. Murray and, after his death, Harper’s Magazine editor Henry Mills Alden; her daughter was the poet Aline Murray Kilmer. She published in newspapers and magazines for years before collecting poems in Flower o’ the Grass (1910). Her verse moves through nature, memory, religion and feeling, within inherited forms. She died in 1939.
